Le daily Ken’ichi Matsuyama.
I watched the Death Note movies recently and though I prefer the anime series, this guy did a pretty good job at playing the sweet-teethed, dainty handed super cute weirdo genius L. He’s the lead in the Norwegian Wood film, too, which only played in NY for three seconds this summer and that bums me out.
He doesn’t have facial hair in any of those films but it looks good on him, makes him look his age. —Cheep
Thom Yorke Live DJ Set @ Low End Theory LA 3.9.11
There’s a lot of TY around lately. This makes us and fellow freaks more than ridiculously happy.
When I saw this today I made the ultimate face of disgust. It’s a face Cheep is very familiar with, one where my left eyebrow goes up higher than usual (works overtime, she says) and my cheeks bunch up. One time, Ultimate Donny from Gil Mantera’s Party Dream said “Why the face of disgust?” to me at a show as I looked at their merch… I was actually excited but he thought I was judging their material as shit. So was my face-when-am-too-happy-about-something-musical baptized. Today, when I saw Nathan Fake linked to this podcast by the Gaslamp Killer and Jon Hopkins I had that face on for a while. Now I’m listening to it and I can’t quit. That is to say, this is some sick shit. -Snail
Cheep & Snail’s Friday pajama jammy jam bled over into Saturday night where another night of movie watching commenced. This time we fanned our eyes during The Other Woman and after SNL we got the vapors watching Dario Argento's occult campfest Suspiria and Swedish bully revenge film Ondskan (Evil). A young Miguel Bosé (above) prancing around in tights and looking all innocent in his feathered hair and Andreas Wilson's bad ass Swede perfection, respectively, had us weak in the knees. Too much hot.
Fans of spontaneity, it’s always the most sweet when we end up going to shows last minute.
The show itself was only scheduled 3 days before after the South African trio canceled their opening gig for Deadmau5 at Roseland due to “production issues.” Snail jumped on that shit quick before it sold out, which it did because Die Antwoord fans don’t play.
