Mad Men: Don Draper Goes Fangirl

Last night, on the season finale of Mad Men, our favorite player, Don Draper, did the one thing that kills a playa’s appeal. Propose.

It doesn’t seem like anything that character does can keep people from loving him (including us) but he sure pissed me off last night. It is obvious that this latest move was carefully orchestrated by the genius Matt Weiner, who will now keep giving us a Don Draper who’s living a lie and couldn’t come to terms with who he really is after a season-long battle with the man in the mirror. This mystery is what the show is about, I have to say when he was smiling all goofy at his soon-to-be-bride in bed, he seemed ridiculous to me. Draper is a dark dude, enough with the grinning. Ha!

Anyway, the reason the episode broke my heart is because Don went for the fangirl. He went to the extreme. At the beginning of the episode, his voice of reason and I-am-not-going-to-take-your-shit-girl (most of the time, it was the 60s) Faye, suggested him to come clean about who he was, that it would make him feel better. But D.D. took the sissy way out and decided to do a brash proposal to Megan, a girl who would never tell him that kind of crap, confronting his demons? What for? She loves the man he is now… A fanboy, a wuss. Poor Faye got heartbroken only because she dared to have a reasonable relationship with her man, in Megan’s defense, at least she speaks French.

My favorite part of the episode was the conversation between Joan and Peggy about the whole proposal, these two finally opening up to each others’ awesomeness was the icing on the cake.

Another highlight was Betty reaching the heights of her mighty bitchiness, at one point I had to remind myself not to hate on January Jones, “she is just the actress Snail!” But I wanted Carla to punch her in the face!

So that’s it, no more Mad Men for this year. I’m asking myself what the hell am I going to do on Sunday nights?
